Portland & Beaverton Divorce Mediation Sessions

How to Prepare for Your First Mediation Session

  • After a consultation,  the next step is a two-hour divorce mediation session to begin resolving the issues.
  • Once you pay in advance for your first session, you will receive a link to your intake file to supply your financial information and other details. However, not everything discussed in divorce mediation depends on the intake file.
  • If you want to begin mediation right away, before you gather your financial data, you can begin with the aspects of the divorce that do not require intake information.

What to Expect in a Divorce Mediation Session

  • Mediation sessions are held in Matthew's Beaverton office (suburban Southwest Portland) or via Zoom.
  • Only Matthew and the two parties are present. Attorneys and other representatives do not participate in mediation with Matthew.
  • Matthew facilitates a calm, reasonable, and respectful discussion of the relevant issues.
  • Even if the parties' communication styles differ greatly, both will be afforded equal participation.
  • You are free to take breaks whenever you wish.
  • We will settle all components of an Oregon divorce, in any order you wish. Not everything will be settled in one session.
  • If you have no minor children, mediation usually takes two to three sessions of two hours each. If you have minor children, the process is usually three to four sessions of two hours each.
  • The Marital Settlement Agreement follows the mediation sessions. Read more.
