Oregon Divorce Mediation Consultation: Mediator Matthew House, J.D.

Matthew offers a 75-minute consultation for the discounted fee of $96. If you become a client soon after the consultation, the consultation fee will be fully credited toward your mediation fees.
  • The consultation is 60 minutes in person or 75 minutes via Zoom,.
  • If you choose to agree to become a mediation client within three business days after the consultation, your consultation fee will be credited toward your first mediation session fee, resulting in a $96 discount.
In effect, it means that your consultation will have become free of charge if you decide to pursue mediation with Matthew House, as the fee you paid for your consultation will become a discount of the same amount off your first mediation fees.

To arrange a consultation: Please send an email to matthewmhousejd@gmail.com.

Please note:
  • Both parties to the case requiring mediation must be present.
  • If you are currently represented by legal counsel that you have retained, Matthew's long-standing office policy is that you must agree to instruct your legal counsel to pause all work on your case while you are in mediation. If you are unwilling to do so, or if doing so would compromise time-sensitive issues in your case, you should not schedule a mediation consultation with Matthew.
  • NOTE: If you have only met the attorney for a brief consultation, even if you paid a fee to do so, you have not retained the attorney. You can schedule a consultation with Matthew right away if you wish.
  • The consultation is offered for a discounted fee with the good-faith understanding that the clients are ready to begin divorce or legal separation mediation sessions in the near future. If you do not anticipate being ready to begin mediation within 30 days of the consultation, please wait to have your consultation until you are closer to being ready to proceed.
Who attends a consultation? Both parties. The consultation is provided at a discounted fee and usually results (90% of the time) in both parties agreeing to begin divorce mediation with Matthew House. It is less likely that both parties will agree to mediate if only one has attended the consultation.

Please note: You do not have to be present in the same room as the other party. Most full-length consultations take place via Zoom. Each party may use a different device, located apart, if you choose. You are also welcome (and encouraged) in the same room for a Zoom consultation.

What is the scope?
At a consultation, you will get a detailed overview of the process and how mediation can meet your needs, but we won't talk about the specific details of your case or attempt to resolve the issues at the consultation. At a full mediation session (usually scheduled after a full consultation), you will discuss and resolve issues specific to your case.

May we begin divorce mediation without a full consultation? Yes. If you believe that you already know enough about Matthew and the divorce mediation process, you may bypass the consultation and begin with a two-hour mediation session.

Do we need to prepare anything prior to the mediation consultation?  No. Only the signed Consultation Agreement is required at the consultation.

To arrange a divorce mediation consultation: Please send an email to matthewmhousejd@gmail.com. After you arrange a time and date, Matthew will ask you to sign the Consultation Agreement and return it to him by email.
