Divorce Mediator Heading

Portland Child-Centered Divorce Coach and Parenting Plan Mediator

A parenting plan is a detailed guidebook for your co-parenting years. Matthew House has 20 years of experience crafting detailed and durable parenting plans for Portland-area families.

Oregon's Premier Child-Centered Divorce Mediator and Parenting Plan Consultant

A parenting plan is more than just a schedule. In fact, it's the single most important part of your Marital Settlement Agreement, if you have minor children. Unfortunately, parenting plans tend to get less attention than the financial pieces of a divorce settlement. Matthew makes parenting plans a high priority.

Matthew has 20 years of experience drafting parenting plans for children of all ages. His proprietary parenting plan rubric – the product of two years of research combined with two decades of experience as a family law mediator and the drafting skills of a law-degreed professional – includes 38 categories for you to consider.

Experience, Not Just Expertise

Matthew’s suggestions for your parenting plan come not only from expertise but also from experience.

Matthew has interacted with hundreds of families and has seen what works and what does not. Every family is unique, and every family is complex in its own way.

A comprehensive parenting plan comes from understanding the individuals who will be participating in it.

For 20 years, Matthew has invited pre-teen, teen, and young adult children of his mediation clients to have no-cost, confidential meetings with him. The primary purpose is to give adolescents a voice in the process and a safe setting in which to share concerns and ask questions.

Matthew has remained in contact with many client families long after mediation has concluded. Through those extended relationships, Matthew has directly observed the long arc of the co-parenting relationship.

Matthew drafts comprehensive plans that meet the requirements of the Circuit Court and also include dozens of optional provisions that he will suggest in your mediation sessions.

ORS 107.102 lists 12 categories of decisions that can go into a parenting plan. The statute is clear that the provisions it enumerates are not the only ones that can be put into the plan.

Unmatched Detail in Parenting Plans

Many divorcing parties make do with only a schedule. Worse yet, most mediators allow it to happen. Matthew reassures clients that they can have a detailed parenting plan without micromanaging each other's lives.

Meeting the bare minimum requirements of the law is not enough. Taking a few of the 12 examples in the statute and throwing together a hastily written parenting plan is not enough.

Matthew will craft your parenting with a level of detail allowing you to complete the mediation process with substantial predictability about the future. When you decide to mediate your divorce with Matthew, you are choosing the law-degreed mediator who has more expertise and direct experience with teens and preteens than any other mediator in Oregon.
